The Sam Garcia Library, a cornerstone of the Avondale community, has undergone a transformative construction project designed to modernize its facilities and expand its services and amenities. The initiative aimed to meet the evolving needs of the community while preserving the library’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
Project Goals:
- Modernization:Updated the library’s infrastructure with new furniture, reception desks, lighting, exciting paint colors and fixtures. Improved aesthetics of the adjacent common area by removing old steel shades and replacing with new decorative benches and memorial signage.
- Expansion: Increased the library’s footprint to accommodate more books, digital resources, and community spaces. Provided additional shade and protection for patrons (especially the kiddos!) by adding an enclosure and shade structure to the playground.
- Accessibility: Enhanced accessibility for individuals with disabilities and improve navigation throughout the facility. Community Engagement: Created versatile spaces for meetings, events, and educational programs.

- Flexible meeting room upgrades for community use.

- Energy-efficient systems to reduce the building’s environmental impact.
The project commenced in February of 2024 and completed in December of 2024. During construction, temporary adjustments to library services will be made to ensure continued access for patrons.
